“My museum could be a road – just a sign pointing forward – the Imants Ziedonis Museum. People will walk and walk, they will look, but there won’t be a museum. Yet another road in Latvia will have been walked. And then that sign may be moved to another place.”

/Imants Ziedonis/

In autumn 2015, the Imants Ziedonis Museum was founded, and a dedicated team was recruited with the support of the “Viegli” Foundation. The museum was the poet’s wish to be brought to life: “I want the museum to be a home for muses, where people come to spend time in evolution, meaningful conversations and creativity.”

The summer house of the Imants Ziedonis Museum in Murjāņi has been preserved as it was once furnished by the poet himself, together with his wife Ausma Ziedone-Kantāne. In addition to the museum’s exhibition, it offers its visitors a variety of artistic programmes, regular events, and activities throughout the summer.

We recommend that you schedule at least one hour of your time to explore the museum’s offer thoroughly. A visit to the museum also includes outdoor attractions. The daily museum programme includes a tailored guidebook “Remarks on the Museum Journey”, which you receive with your admission ticket. The museum programme is available in both Latvian and English.

All visitors are welcome to bring a picnic basket to enjoy a small picnic in the courtyard of the Murjāņi House after their visit to the museum.
